5 Chinese Arrested for Illegal Mining in Uyo
EFCC CRACKS DOWN ON ILLEGAL MINING: 5 CHINESE NATIONALS ARRESTED IN AKWA IBOM.
In a bold move against illegal mining activities, operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Uyo Zonal Directorate have apprehended five Chinese nationals in Akwa Ibom State.
The suspects, identified as Zhon Qinping, Li Yi, Xie Bin, Chen Mou Zhou, and Chen Zeng, were arrested by the EFCC’s Special Task Force on Illegal Mining at Ndito-Eka-Iba village in Ibieno Local Government Area.
According to sources, the arrests were made following credible intelligence on the illicit activities of foreign mining companies operating in Eket and Ibieno Local Government Areas.
The Chinese nationals were caught in the act at an illegal mining site, where they were allegedly extracting ilmenite, a valuable titanium-iron oxide mineral.
The EFCC has confirmed that the suspects will be charged to court once investigations are completed, signaling a strong stance against illegal mining activities in the region.
