8 Lives Lost in Deadly Inter-Cult Clash Imo [Photos]
Cult Violence Erupts in Imo, Claims 8 Lives.
Tragic news from Imo State, Nigeria, where at least eight people have lost their lives in a deadly inter-cult clash in the Awarra and Ochia communities of Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area. The violence has been ongoing for weeks, with five cult members and three community members killed, and one person still missing after being abducted.
A community leader, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed frustration with the state government’s inability to provide security, allowing the cultists to wreak havoc. Many residents have fled to neighboring communities, seeking refuge in churches, but are struggling to survive without access to food, homes, or farmlands.
The clash is reportedly a supremacy battle between two groups vying for control over proceeds from oil companies operating in the area. One group is led by a man known as Acid, while the other is led by Achis.
The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the incident and assured that efforts are being made to restore peace. The Commissioner of Police has engaged with local stakeholders, enhanced security strategies, and made several arrests.
Efforts to Restore Peace:
– Community-Led Initiative: Awarra and Ochia communities have formed a committee to develop measures to restore peace.
– Government Intervention: The state government has intervened, and normalcy has been restored in some areas.
– Police Engagement:The Commissioner of Police has personally visited Ohaji, and cooperation with stakeholders has yielded positive results.
It’s heartbreaking to see communities torn apart by violence, and I hope the authorities can bring lasting peace to the area soon.
