FLOOD WATCH: NEMA MONITORS SURGING RIVER BENUE IN ADAMAWA STATE.
Yola, Adamawa State – The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is on high alert as it closely monitors the rising water levels at the entry point of River Benue in Bakin Kogi community, Yola North Local Government Area.
Led by Mr. Ladan Ayuba, Head of NEMA Yola Operations Office, a team of experts conducted a critical assessment of the river’s water levels, seeking to gauge the potential for flooding and activate early warning systems.
During the visit, the NEMA team received a detailed briefing from the Marine Police Operational Commander, highlighting the current situation and the importance of sustained monitoring amidst unpredictable weather patterns.
This proactive move is part of NEMA’s broader strategy to mitigate flood risks and ensure public safety. The agency is working in tandem with local authorities and stakeholders to safeguard communities potentially affected by the rising waters.
As the rainy season intensifies, NEMA’s vigilance is crucial in preventing a repeat of previous flood disasters. The agency’s proactive approach has been praised by local residents, who are grateful for the efforts to protect their lives and livelihoods.
With the River Benue’s water levels continuing to rise, NEMA’s monitoring efforts will remain in place, providing real-time updates and early warnings to at-risk communities.
The situation serves as a reminder of the importance of disaster preparedness and the need for continued collaboration between emergency responders, local authorities, and the public.
As the threat of flooding looms large, NEMA’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property remains unwavering.
