Zamfara Village Raid: Terrorists Abduct 3 Residents, Steal Livestock, Demand N40m Ransom

Terrorists Wreak Havoc in Zamfara Village: 3 Residents Kidnapped, Livestock Stolen, N40m Ransom Demanded.

A brazen terrorist attack on Yan Ukku village in Talata Mafara local government area of Zamfara State has left three residents kidnapped, livestock stolen, and a ransom demand of N40 million.

According to sources, the terrorists stormed the community last Thursday night, rustling all the livestock and abducting Muhammadu Lakada and two others. The family has since been contacted by the terrorists, demanding N40 million in exchange for the safe release of the abductees.

This latest attack marks the third since 2022, with the community having suffered previous incidents of phone theft, food theft, and hen stealing. The family, who offered to pay N1 million, had their offer rejected by the terrorists.

The victims and stolen animals are believed to be held in the notorious Barikin Daji forest. The family has chosen not to involve the police, citing past experiences that have proven ineffective.

Efforts to reach the Zamfara Police Command Spokesman, Yezid Abubakar, for comments were unsuccessful.

The attack has left the community reeling, with many residents feeling helpless and frustrated by the lack of effective security measures. The stolen livestock, which were the primary source of income for many families, has further exacerbated the situation.

The family of the abducted victims has appealed to the government and security agencies to intervene and ensure the safe release of their loved ones. However, with the police seemingly unresponsive, hopes are dwindling.

As the situation continues to unfold, concerns are being raised about the escalating security crisis in Zamfara State and the ability of the authorities to protect citizens from terrorist attacks.

The incident has also highlighted the dire need for a comprehensive approach to addressing the root causes of terrorism and banditry in the region, including poverty, unemployment, and social inequality.

In the meantime, the people of Yan Ukku village can only wait and hope for the safe return of their loved ones, even as they struggle to come to terms with the trauma and loss inflicted by the terrorists.
