Nigerian Army Gets Combat Boost, COAS Reiterates Commitment to Human Rights [Photos]

NIGERIAN ARMY BOOSTS COMBAT CAPABILITIES, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO HUMAN RIGHTS AND APOLITICAL STANCE.

Uyo, Akwa Ibom State – The Nigerian Army has acquired new combat enablers to enhance its effectiveness in ongoing operations across the country, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja announced on Wednesday.

Speaking at the Chief of Army Staff Combined Second and Third Quarters Conference 2024, Lagbaja highlighted the acquisition of Mine-Resistance Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, rifles, and ammunition, which have already positively impacted troops’ operations.

The COAS reassured that the Nigerian Army will remain apolitical and respect human rights, adhering to rules of engagement in its operations. He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to build a well-equipped and professional Army.

Governor Umoh Eno of Akwa Ibom State, who declared the conference open, urged the Nigerian Army to maintain its trajectory, prioritize actionable intelligence, and synergize with security agencies.

The event featured the presentation of Nigerian Army Group Life Assurance cheques to beneficiaries, fulfilling one of the COAS’ pillars of sound administration and welfare for personnel and their families.

The COAS also disclosed that Nigerian Army pilots are undergoing training on newly acquired Bell UH-1 Huey helicopters, which will soon be inducted into theatres of operation for logistic missions.

Governor Eno commended the COAS for his exemplary leadership and urged the Nigerian Army to evolve strategies to consolidate on its achievements. He emphasized the critical role of actionable intelligence and synergy among security agencies in the success of operations.

The event highlighted the Nigerian Army’s commitment to welfare, with the presentation of Group Life Assurance cheques to beneficiaries. This initiative aligns with the COAS’ philosophy of promoting sound administration and adequate welfare for personnel and their families.

In a demonstration of its commitment to human rights and apolitical stance, the Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its dedication to upholding the principles of fundamental human rights and adhering to rules of engagement in its operations.
