Abuja Courts Sentence Two to Jail for Internet Fraud, Remand Two

COURT HAMMERS INTERNET FRAUDSTERS: Two Jailed, Two Remanded in Abuja.

Abuja, Nigeria – In a landmark ruling, the Federal Capital Territory High Court has convicted and sentenced two internet fraudsters to various jail terms, while remanding two others in correctional centers.

Justices M. Adamu and S.C. Oriji delivered the verdicts on Wednesday, August 27, 2024, after the suspects were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges of internet fraud and related offenses.

Daniel Akindele and Stephen Chi pleaded guilty to the charges and were sentenced to two years and one year in prison, respectively, with options of N900,000 and N100,000 fines. They also forfeited their phones to the Federal Government.

Achedo Ikechukwu and Kingsley Tobi pleaded not guilty and were remanded in the custody of the EFCC and Kuje Correctional facility, respectively, as their trials were adjourned to September 4 and 9, 2024.

The EFCC’s Abuja Zonal Directorate had arraigned the four defendants on charges bordering on obtaining by false pretenses, aiding and abetting, and possession of fraudulent documents.

The convictions and sentences mark a significant milestone in the fight against internet fraud in Nigeria.
