Fubara to Police: Let's Work Together to Build Peace in Rivers State, Not Enmity

Rivers State Governor Fubara Cautions Police Against Partisanship, Urges Impartiality.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has warned police officers in the state against prioritizing political interests over their professional duties, emphasizing that such actions will ultimately harm them. He stressed that police officers have a patriotic obligation to protect lives and property, and promote peace in the state.

Speaking at the inauguration and handover of 100 operational vehicles to the Rivers State Police Command, Governor Fubara emphasized the importance of impartiality and professionalism in policing. He urged officers to uphold their core responsibilities and avoid favoring individuals or engaging in one-sided political activities, which could compromise the state’s well-being.

The governor’s remarks come amid a protracted power struggle in Rivers State, with former Governor Nyesom Wike and Governor Fubara locked in a fierce battle for dominance over the state’s political apparatus. Despite efforts by President Bola Tinubu to broker peace, the intra-party conflict has persisted, with far-reaching consequences, including factional divisions among lawmakers in the state House of Assembly.

Governor Fubara’s warning to police officers is seen as a move to ensure that the security agency remains neutral in the political crisis, and focuses on its core mandate of protecting lives and property. He emphasized that enmity created by partisan policing will have lasting consequences, and urged officers to stand by the ethics of their profession.
