Deadly Floods Displace 1,000, Kill 2, and Leave 5 Communities Stranded

Flood Devastation: 2 Children Killed, 1,000 Displaced in Kaduna Communities.

A devastating flood has ravaged communities in Kafanchan and surrounding villages in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, leaving a trail of destruction and despair. The disaster has claimed the lives of two children, displaced over 1,000 residents, and destroyed farmlands and crops worth millions of naira.

According to the Vice Chairman of Jema’a LGA, Mrs. Christy Usman, the flood incidents occurred in parts of Kafanchan Municipal City, Jagindi, Atuku, Aso, and Bade wards, causing widespread destruction. “The flood has affected the people of Jema’a council economically, but we are grateful for the swift response from Governor Uba Sani, who has sent a committee to assess the impact of the flood,” she said.

The committee, chaired by the Chief of Staff, Malam Sani Kila, has been touring affected communities in Southern Kaduna, including Sanga, Jema’a, and Kachia councils. Briefing journalists, Kila emphasized the urgent need for assistance, stating that thousands of people require immediate help.

The flood disaster has not only destroyed homes and farmlands but also disrupted the livelihoods of residents. The affected communities are in dire need of relief materials, including food items, building materials, and financial assistance.

As the situation continues to unfold, concerns are growing about the long-term impact of the flood on the affected communities. The government’s response will be crucial in mitigating the effects of this disaster and providing support to those affected.
