CDS Vows to Apprehend Notorious Bandit Kingpin, Bello Turji
Chief of Defence Staff Vows to Capture Notorious Bandit Kingpin, Bello Turji.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has pledged to apprehend Bello Turji, a notorious terrorist kingpin terrorizing the Northwest region. Turji recently imposed a N30 million levy on residents of Moriki in Zamfara State for their protection against attacks.
Addressing journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Musa described Turji as a “deranged individual” who will be captured soon. He assured that the issue of levies imposed by Turji and other bandits will be addressed.
Musa emphasized that the support received by bandits from residents fuels their activities. He appealed to citizens to stop giving support to bandits, revealing that locals had invited bandits to attack troops’ armoured vehicles when they broke down.
The CDS also announced that operations in the Northwest have been harmonized under a unified operation, “Kasar Yamma,” to address security challenges in the region.
Musa’s vow to capture Turji comes as a welcome development in the fight against banditry in Nigeria.
General Musa’s statement is a significant development in the fight against banditry in Nigeria, which has claimed countless lives and displaced thousands of people. The Nigerian military has been working to combat the threat, but the bandits have continued to evolve and adapt.
The harmonization of operations in the Northwest under “Kasar Yamma” is seen as a strategic move to tackle the security challenges in the region. By bringing all the troops and equipment under one commander, the military aims to achieve greater synergy and effectiveness in its operations.
However, some analysts have expressed skepticism about the military’s ability to deliver on its promises. They point to the fact that similar vows have been made in the past, only to be followed by more attacks and violence.
Despite these concerns, General Musa’s statement has been welcomed by many Nigerians who are eager to see an end to the banditry and violence that has plagued the country for so long.
As the military prepares to launch its operation against Bello Turji and his cohorts, all eyes will be on the outcome. Will the military be able to deliver on its promises, or will the bandits continue to wreak havoc on innocent civilians? Only time will tell.
