EFCC’s Midnight Raid: Operatives Descend on Kogi Governor’s Lodge for Yahaya Bello [FULL DETAILS VIDEO]
Dramatic scenes unfolded last night at the Kogi Government Lodge in Asokoro as Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operatives allegedly stormed the premises in a bid to arrest former Governor Yahaya Bello. According to Bello’s Director of Media, Ohiare Michael, the EFCC operatives were shooting sporadically, sparking widespread concern.
This development comes on the heels of Bello’s earlier visit to the EFCC office, where he reportedly made himself available for interrogation. However, the EFCC’s sudden change of heart has raised eyebrows, with many questioning the motives behind the agency’s actions.
Bello is currently facing 19-count charges bordering on money laundering to the tune of N80.2 billion. TheEFCC had declared him wanted, and a subsisting warrant for his arrest remains in place.
The former governor’s camp has condemned the EFCC’s actions, labeling them as “needless” and “condemnable.” They argue that the EFCC’s sudden interest in arresting Bello, despite his earlier willingness to cooperate, suggests that the agency may be driven by ulterior motives rather than a genuine commitment to fighting corruption.
As the drama unfolds, Nigerians are left wondering what’s next in this high-stakes saga. Will Bello finally face justice, or will the EFCC’s actions be seen as a politically motivated witch-hunt? Only time will tell.
