EFCC Vows to Protect Electoral Integrity in Edo Governorship Election.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring electoral integrity in the Edo State governorship election, deploying operatives to all local government areas to combat voter inducement. According to Dele Oyewale, EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, the agency is determined to prevent financial inducement and ensure voters cast their ballots democratically.

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede emphasized that vote buying is a financial crime, and the commission will not tolerate it. “Our operatives have been deployed to monitor the conduct of the elections… Vote buying is a financial crime, and the EFCC won’t allow it anywhere,” he stated.

The EFCC’s efforts to combat electoral malpractices are not limited to the Edo election. The commission has been actively involved in monitoring electoral processes across the country, in line with its mandate to tackle economic and financial crimes.

 Consequences of Vote Buying

Financial Penalty: Up to N500,000 fine
Imprisonment: Up to 2 years
Both Fine and Imprisonment: Possible

The EFCC’s proactive stance aims to promote transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s electoral process.
