FG Endorses Bakassi Deep Seaport, Paving Way for Maritime Transformation.

The federal government has given its seal of approval to the Bakassi Deep Seaport Integrated Project, a groundbreaking initiative set to revolutionize Nigeria’s maritime sector and bolster the nation’s economy.

Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, threw his weight behind the project during a stakeholders’ engagement in Calabar, Cross River State. He hailed the project as Nigeria’s first agro-value chain-based deep seaport, with vast potential for economic growth.

The project includes a 217-kilometer superhighway linking the seaport to northern Nigeria, facilitating the export of agricultural products such as rubber, timber, cocoa, palm oil, and livestock. This is expected to enhance Nigeria’s global competitiveness and boost foreign exchange earnings.

Oyetola commended the Cross River State Government’s Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, ensuring the port’s competitiveness and attractiveness to stakeholders. He emphasized the project’s alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Bakassi Deep Seaport promises significant socio-economic benefits, including job creation, trade facilitation, and increased revenue generation. With federal backing, this ambitious project is poised to cement Nigeria’s status as a leading maritime power.
