Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, has made a strong case for the country’s inclusion as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.  Nigeria’s Commitment to Global Peace

– Deployed over 200,000 troops in UN operations
– Contributed financially, logistically, and with civilian experts to various African countries, including Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mali, and Côte d’Ivoire
– Played a key role in regional security and stability in West Africa and the Sahel

Call for UN Security Council Reform

Badaru emphasized the need for Africa to have permanent representation on the UN Security Council, stressing its importance for global stability, inclusivity, and peace. He also urged the international community to renew efforts to stem the tide of small arms and light weapons proliferation in the Sahel region.
