Teenager Allegedly Sets House Ablaze After Theft in Kwara [Photos]
Teenager Arrested for Ilorin Arson and Theft.
A shocking incident unfolded in Ilorin, Kwara State, yesterday, when 18-year-old Olawumi Ayomide was apprehended for setting a house ablaze after stealing valuable items with his gang. The Kwara Fire Service spokesperson, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, confirmed the incident occurred on September 25, 2024, at 12:11 hours.
The Drama Unfolds
The Kwara State Fire Service swiftly responded to a fire outbreak at No. 59, Afenifere Community, Onireke, Gaa-Akanbi area, Ilorin, and found a three-bedroom bungalow engulfed in flames. Despite extinguishing the fire within 25 minutes, two rooms were completely ravaged, destroying items like mattresses, valuable documents, a plasma TV, and clothing.
Investigations revealed the fire was an act of arson committed by Ayomide’s three-person gang, who had stolen foodstuffs, groceries, and clothing. When discovered by residents, the gang set the house ablaze to escape. During his capture, Ayomide stabbed a man twice before being handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Tanke Division.
Community Urged to Remain Vigilant
The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, emphasized the importance of prioritizing safety and remaining vigilant to prevent such incidents. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of community awareness and cooperation in maintaining law and order.
The suspect is currently in custody, and further investigations are underway.
