Farmer Killed in Ondo After Getting Paid for Crop Damage
A devastating incident has shaken the peaceful village of Uba Oka in Akoko Southwest Local Government Area, leaving residents in a state of mourning. Sunday Ayenis, a 36-year-old farmer, was found brutally murdered on his farm, just days after receiving compensation from herders for damaged crops.
Eyewitnesses claim that Ayenis’ lifeless body was discovered with his intestines exposed, alongside his slain dog. The gruesome scene suggests a deliberate and violent attack. Sources close to the investigation reveal that the herders, dissatisfied with the compensation amount negotiated by security agents and community elders, may have orchestrated the killing.
The community is now gripped with fear, as farmers are hesitant to tend to their fields due to the threat of herders’ attacks. A local leader, Mr. Pius Imoru, expressed the community’s collective grief and concern for their safety.
In response to the incident, a joint security team comprising police and Amotekun Corps personnel has been deployed to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for increased security measures to protect farmers and their livelihoods. The deployment of a joint security team is seen as a step in the right direction, but many are demanding more concrete actions to address the root causes of the conflict.
As the investigation unfolds, concerns about the safety and well-being of the community continue to mount. The fear of further attacks has left many farmers on edge, wondering if they will be the next target.
The tragic incident has also highlighted the need for sustainable solutions to the long-standing conflict between farmers and herders. Community leaders and stakeholders are calling for dialogue and cooperation to find a lasting resolution to the issue.
In the meantime, the family of Sunday Ayenis and the entire Uba Oka community mourn the loss of a beloved son, father, and friend. His brutal murder serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for peace and security in the region.
