Bauchi Police Arrest Rail Track Vandal, Recover Stolen Components
95 Stolen Rail Track Parts Recovered, Suspect Arrested in Bauchi.
The Bauchi State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in combating railway vandalism with the arrest of 29-year-old Heli Hassan for allegedly stealing critical rail track components. Hassan was apprehended on September 24, 2024, at 11:00 PM in the Inkil quarters area of Bauchi, and has confessed to conspiring with Jacob Sulaiman, who is still at large.

The police recovered 95 stolen rail track components, highlighting the severity of the vandalism.
This arrest comes amidst growing concerns over railway vandalism in Nigeria. The Nigerian Railway Corporation has lost over 150,000 rail clips to vandalism, and the government has reiterated its commitment to halting these activities.
Government Efforts to Combat Vandalism:
The Transportation Ministry is collaborating with the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) to tackle vandalism of rail infrastructure. The ministry is also deploying extensive surveillance measures to prevent vandalism.
