Accused Officers Identified, Under Interrogation – Police React to N1m Extortion Allegations
Police Launch Investigation into Alleged Harassment, N1m Extortion of Corps Members.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Command PRO, has confirmed that the police officers caught on camera harassing corps members in Surulere, Lagos State, are currently being interrogated. This update comes after a video surfaced showing the officers in a heated exchange with the corps members, with allegations that they extorted N1 million from them.
In response to the video, Hundeyin stated that the officers have been identified and the Area Commander has been contacted. However, he emphasized that more evidence is needed to progress with the investigation, specifically requesting any footage or records of the alleged extortion.
The police are taking this matter seriously, and Hundeyin has assured the public that updates on the interrogation’s outcome will be made available. This is a positive step towards accountability and transparency within the police force.
It’s reassuring to see the police taking swift action to address these allegations. The Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment also emphasizes the importance of holding perpetrators accountable and ensuring that victims receive fair treatment and compensation.
