Nigerian Woman Jailed For Trafficking Eight Young Girls For Sexual Exploitation in Ghana

A Nigerian woman, Favour Ugwu, 28, has been sentenced to eight years in prison by a Ghanaian court for human trafficking. She was part of a ring that lured eight young Nigerian girls, aged 15-22, to Ghana with false promises of employment, only to force them into sexual exploitation. These victims came from various states in Nigeria, including Ebonyi, Akwa-Ibom, Imo, Plateau, and Cross River.

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) expressed gratitude to Ghanaian security agencies for their cooperation in rescuing the girls. NiDCOM’s Chairman/CEO, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, also acknowledged the support of Oluremi Tinubu, Chief Callistus Elozieuwa, the Nigerian embassy in Ghana, and the Interpol Units of Nigeria and Ghana in facilitating the girls’ return.

The rescued girls have been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for safe accommodation, rehabilitation, and reintegration with their families.
