Herdsmen Attack Benue IDP Camp, One Dead
TRAGEDY STRIKES BENUE: Suspected Herdsmen Kill 45-Year-Old IDP.
A devastating attack by suspected herdsmen has left a 45-year-old Internally Displaced Person (IDP) dead in Benue State. Zaki Tali Tyosoo, a native of Tse Gerbe in Mbachohon Council Ward, Gwer Local Government Area, was brutally murdered on his farm along Tse Tse Ukum road.
Tyosoo, who had been displaced from his village, was working on his farm with his second wife, Mrs. Tyosoo Dorcas, 25, when the armed assailants struck. According to Dorcas, about 10 strange men, armed with guns and cutlasses, suddenly appeared, shooting and chasing her husband before butchering him to death.
The deceased had sought refuge at the Agagbe IDPs camp in Gwer West LGA with his family due to the ongoing conflict between herdsmen and farmers in the region. The camp manager, Ibaah Jacob, confirmed that Tyosoo’s corpse has been recovered and brought to the Agagbe camp, where his family is sheltered.
This tragic incident is the latest in a series of attacks on IDPs in Benue State, which has been plagued by violence between herdsmen and farmers. The conflict has displaced over 1.5 million residents, with many struggling to access basic necessities like food and shelter.
The authorities must take swift action to address the root causes of this conflict and ensure the safety and protection of IDPs in Benue State. Our thoughts are with the family of Zaki Tali Tyosoo and all those affected by this senseless violence.
