Akwa Ibom Police Arrest Dismissed Officer for Impersonation
Akwa Ibom Police Arrest Dismissed Officer for Impersonation.
In a bold move, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has apprehended a former police corporal, Michael Effiong, for allegedly posing as a serving sergeant.
Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, revealed that Effiong, dismissed in 2011, was caught wearing a police uniform during a routine patrol on Stadium Road, Uyo.
Found in his possession were a warrant card and three passport photographs bearing his name with a corporal rank.
Effiong’s inability to explain his actions led to his arrest, with charges pending.
CP Eribo emphasized the command’s commitment to accountability, promising rewards for outstanding officers and consequences for misconduct.
“Justice must be served, and citizens treated with courtesy and fairness,” he stressed, warning against extortion.
This arrest underscores the command’s dedication to integrity and transparency.
