Tinubu’s Green Initiative: Nigeria to Adopt Compressed Natural Gas for Commercial Vehicles [Photos]
President Bola Tinubu announced on Monday that Nigeria will adopt India’s model of mandating Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for commercial vehicles to reduce petrol consumption and enhance energy competitiveness. Speaking at the inauguration of 30 hybrid CNG buses donated by DAPPMAN, Tinubu emphasized the need for innovation in the transportation sector. He noted that commercial vehicles account for 80% of Nigeria’s petrol demand, costing trillions of naira monthly, and expressed confidence that CNG adoption will significantly reduce this burden and bring prosperity to Nigerians.
Tinubu praised INNOSON Motors and others committed to transforming the transportation industry and assured that his administration will work towards achieving prosperity through enhanced energy competitiveness. He cited India’s success in mandating CNG for commercial vehicles since 2004 and expressed determination to implement similar changes in Nigeria, promising that “things will get better, prosperity will be achieved.”
