Obasanjo Snubs Tinubu’s Council Of State Meeting In Abuja As Buhari, Jonathan Show Up
President Bola Tinubu is currently chairing the inaugural gathering of the Council of State under his administration, taking place on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Notably, former President Olusegun Obasanjo is absent from the meeting. In contrast, former Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Goodluck Jonathan are in attendance, while Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar are participating remotely.
This Council, tasked with advising the President on critical policy decisions, comprises the Vice President, Senate President, and other high-ranking officials. The meeting comes at a time of heightened tensions, following widespread protests against economic hardship and the recent removal of fuel subsidies.
Earlier, it was reported that President Tinubu convened the Council of State meeting to address pressing national concerns. The Council consists of the President as Chairman, the Vice President as Deputy Chairman, all former Presidents and Heads of Government, former Chief Justices of Nigeria, the President of the Senate, Speaker of the House of Representatives, all state Governors, and the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation.
