Army Strikes Against Oil Thieves: 27 Refineries Demolished, Looted Oil Recovered
The Nigerian Army has launched a crackdown on oil theft in the Niger Delta region, destroying 27 illegal refineries and seizing over 100,000 liters of stolen crude oil. The raids, carried out in conjunction with other security agencies, aim to curb oil theft and sabotage, which have significantly impacted Nigeria’s oil output and exports.
According to Army spokesperson Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, the operation resulted in the confiscation of:
– 100,000 liters of stolen crude oil
– 3 vehicles loaded with illegally refined fuel
– 2 storage reservoirs containing over 80,000 liters of stolen crude
– 3 vehicles loaded with over 8,000 liters of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil.
The Nigerian Army’s 16 Brigade, in collaboration with other security agencies, discovered and destroyed four illegal refining sites, containing:
– 3 metal drums
– Pits with over 6,000 liters of stolen crude
Major General Jamal Abdussalam, General Officer Commanding 6 Division, commended the troops for their efforts and urged them to maintain the integrity of the pipelines. The seized products are being handled appropriately, and the operation is ongoing to ensure the eradication of oil theft and illegal refining in the region.
