ABUJA MARKET ABLAZE: Firefighters’ Late Arrival Exacerbates Destruction, Traders Cry Out (Photos)
ABUJA MARKET INFERNO: Late Firefighting Response Worsens Devastating Blaze, Traders Bemoan Losses.
A catastrophic fire swept through a section of Kaura Modern Market in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on Friday night, leaving a trail of destruction and despair in its wake. The inferno, which erupted around 11 pm, ravaged over 40 shops, inflicting substantial losses on traders.
As the fire raged unchecked, traders expressed frustration and dismay at the delayed arrival of FCT firefighters, which allowed the blaze to spread to adjacent shops. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
At the scene of the disaster, traders were seen wading through the debris, lamenting their losses and assessing the damage. The market, situated opposite Prince and Princess Estate, was a hub of commercial activity, and the fire has dealt a severe blow to the livelihoods of many.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with traders desperately trying to salvage what was left of their merchandise. The late response of the firefighting team has raised questions about the preparedness and effectiveness of emergency services in the FCT.
As the traders begin the arduous process of rebuilding and recovery, concerns linger about the safety and security of markets in the region. An investigation into the cause of the fire and the response of emergency services is urgently needed to prevent such disasters in the future.
