Tinubu Urges West African Countries to Strengthen Anti-Corruption Efforts
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on West African countries to bolster their anti-corruption agencies and legal frameworks to combat the scourge of corruption. Speaking at the 6th Annual General Assembly of the Network of Anti-Corruption Institutions in West Africa (NACIWA) in Abuja, Tinubu emphasized the need for concerted action to tackle corruption, which he described as a major obstacle to progress and prosperity.
Regional Cooperation Key to Success
Tinubu stressed the importance of regional cooperation, cross-border collaboration, and harmonization of legal frameworks to combat corruption. He announced the donation of a property to house NACIWA’s headquarters in Abuja, underscoring Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening the regional anti-corruption effort.
Experts Weigh In
Other speakers, including the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, and the Attorney General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, emphasized the need for innovative thinking, dedication, and legal cooperation to implement the ECOWAS Protocol against Corruption.
International Community Urged to Support Africa’s Efforts
Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Maitama Tuggar called on the international community to support Africa’s anti-corruption efforts by ensuring transparent global financial systems and repatriating stolen assets.
Regional Assembly Seeks Solutions
The 6th NACIWA General Assembly, attended by participants from across West Africa, aims to find solutions to the region’s corruption challenges through collaborative efforts and strengthened institutions.
