Governor Abiodun Gifts Navy 100 Hectares for Dockyard in Ogun
The Governor of Ogun State Prince (Dr) Dapo Abiodun MFR and his team paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla on Friday 9 August, 2024 at Naval Headquarters.
In his remarks, the Governor, appreciated the CNS for the already existing relationship with the Nigerian Navy (NN). In particular, he praised the establishment of a Naval Outpost on TONGEJI Island in Ipokia LGA of the state. Thereafter, the Governor stated that Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited had given Ogun State the status of an Oil Exploration Frontier with expectations of viable prospection in the near future. Hence it is now imperative for the NN to establish a Base and a Dockyard in the state. Consequently, the Governor announced the donation of a 100 hectares of land to expedite the establishment of such units.
Governor Abiodun pledges support for swift completion
Governor Abiodun promised his administration’s support for the project’s speedy completion. ”Whatever it is that the Ogun state government needs to do, we will do everything possible to make it a reality,” he stated.
In his response, the CNS appreciated the donation of the land and the recognition of NN lead role in maritime security.
He further thanked the Governor for the visit which culminated in the Governor presenting the land documents to the CNS, presentation of souvenirs and group photographs.
Present at the event are Principal Staff of Officers, Directors, Senior officers and officers.
Naval chief charges new warrant officers to be committed
In another report, Vice Admiral Ogalla elevated and honoured 19 Master Warrant Officers to the highest rank in the Naval Warrant Officer cadre.
Rear Admiral JD Akpan, on behalf of the CNS, presided over the ceremony at the Naval Headquarters in Abuja. Akpan tasked the officers to consider the promotion a clarion call for more work.
