Amotekun Apprehends 27 Suspects for Kidnapping, Theft, and Other Crimes

Amotekun Corps Cracks Down on Crime in Ondo State.

The Western Nigeria Security Network, Amotekun Corps, has apprehended 27 suspects in Ondo State for alleged kidnapping, theft, and other crimes. Commander Adetunji Adeleye paraded the suspects before reporters in Akure, revealing that four alleged kidnappers were among those arrested.

The suspects, including a syndicate member responsible for killing commercial motorcyclists, were apprehended in various parts of the state and neighboring regions, including Kogi and Edo.

Adeleye highlighted the success of the newly established Amotekun Rangers in combating crime in border forests.

The suspects face charges ranging from kidnapping to theft of household equipment and foodstuffs, as well as breaking and entering.

Details of the Arrests

According to Commander Adeleye, the suspected kidnappers had been terrorizing villagers in Ikakumo-Akoko for an extended period. The syndicate member, who was arrested in Kogi, confessed to stealing numerous motorcycles over the past five years in Akure, Ogbese, and Uso.

“The suspect dismantled the motorcycles and sold the parts outside the state,” Adeleye said.

Additional Arrests

Amotekun personnel also apprehended five suspects specializing in stealing household equipment and foodstuffs. Furthermore, suspects were arrested for breaking into a shop and stealing mattresses valued between N5,000 and N10,000.

Impact of Amotekun Rangers

Commander Adeleye attributed the success of the arrests to the recent establishment of the Amotekun Rangers. The unit has been effective in combating crime in border forests in Edo and Kogi.

“The Amotekun Rangers have yielded positive results, and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of Ondo State residents,” Adeleye assured.

Investigations and Prosecution

The commander confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be prosecuted accordingly.

The Amotekun Corps’ efforts demonstrate a commitment to addressing the rising crime rates in Ondo State, providing residents with a sense of relief and reassurance.
