Enugu Checkpoint Ambush: Gunmen Kill Four Policemen, Spark Outrage.
A deadly attack on a police checkpoint at Four Corner Junction in Ozalla, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, has left at least four officers dead. According to eyewitnesses, the policemen were conducting a routine stop-and-search operation when gunmen opened fire on them.
A graphic video obtained by SaharaReporters shows the lifeless body of a police officer on the expressway, with a burnt police patrol vehicle nearby. Social media users described the scene as chaotic, with multiple shots fired and vehicles destroyed.
The attack has been condemned by Dr. Frank Nweke Jr., a former Information Minister and 2023 All Progressives Grand Alliance governorship candidate, who described it as an “act of wickedness.” Nweke extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and the Enugu Police Command, stating that it is unacceptable for anyone to die in such a brutal manner while performing their duty.
The Enugu State Police Command and government officials have yet to comment on the incident, despite repeated attempts to reach them. The attack has raised concerns about the safety and security of law enforcement personnel in the region.
