Cross-Border Tensions Escalate: Armenia Attacks Azerbaijan’s Military Posts
Regional Tensions Rise: Armenia Fires on Azerbaijan’s Military.
Tensions are running high between Armenia and Azerbaijan, with reports emerging that Armenian forces have fired on Azerbaijani military positions in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. This incident, which occurred late Saturday at 11:20 pm local time, marks the sixth such incident this month, following a similar event last Thursday.
According to the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry, the Armenian military targeted positions near the settlement of Yukhari Buzgov, approximately 2 kilometers from the border. Azerbaijan has taken “adequate response measures” to address the situation.
The ongoing conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan has its roots in a 44-day war in 2020, which ended with a Russian-brokered peace agreement. This agreement paved the way for normalization and border demarcation between the two nations. Fast-forward to September 2023, Azerbaijan established full sovereignty over Karabakh after a successful “anti-terrorist operation” led to the surrender of separatist forces in the region.
While Armenian authorities have yet to comment on this latest incident, they have previously denied similar claims made by Azerbaijan.
