Customs Officers Lament Non-Payment of 2023 Election Duty Allowance

Nigerian Customs Personnel Decry Non-Payment of 2023 Election Allowances After One Year.

Nigerian Customs personnel are speaking out against the non-payment of their 2023 election duty allowances, despite the elections taking place over a year ago. The personnel, who were deployed to complement the Nigeria Police Force during the elections, claim they have yet to receive their allowances.

Election Duty Allowance Controversy

This issue has sparked widespread discontent among the affected personnel, with some expressing their frustration anonymously. One personnel member described the delay as “wickedness,” considering the risks they took during the elections. Another personnel member noted that it was unfair for them to still be owed allowances while other security agents had already been paid.

Official Response

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Customs Service, Abdullahi Maiwada, directed inquiries to the relevant authorities responsible for paying election duty allowances. Maiwada emphasized that the Nigerian Customs Service does not pay election duty allowances.

The non-payment of election duty allowances to Nigerian Customs personnel has become a recurring issue, with similar complaints arising after the 2019 General Elections
