DANGOTE REFINERY UNVEILS FIRST BATCH OF PETROL, SET TO SUPPLY 25 MILLION LITRES IN SEPTEMBER.

In a groundbreaking move, Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, formally unveiled the first sample of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) produced by his refinery on Tuesday. The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has announced that the Dangote Oil Refinery will supply a total of 25 million litres of petrol to the Nigerian market in September, with plans to increase production to 30 million litres daily from October.

During the unveiling ceremony, Dangote expressed optimism that the supply of petrol into Nigeria would revolutionize the country’s energy landscape. The NMDPRA revealed that it had reached an agreement with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to supply local crude oil to the refinery in local currency.

According to the NMDPRA, the refinery is poised to make a significant impact on the domestic market, with an initial supply of 25 million litres of PMS in September, followed by a substantial increase to 30 million litres daily from October 2024. This development is expected to significantly boost Nigeria’s energy sector and reduce reliance on imported petrolhe move is seen as a major milestone in Nigeria’s quest for energy self-sufficiency.

“The unveiling of the first sample of petrol from the Dangote Refinery marks a significant turning point in Nigeria’s energy history,” said Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group. “We are proud to be at the forefront of this revolution, and we are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of Nigerians.”

The Dangote Refinery, which is located in Lagos, is one of the largest refineries in Africa, with a capacity to produce 650,000 barrels of oil per day. The refinery is expected to create thousands of jobs and stimulate economic growth in Nigeria.

The NMDPRA has praised the Dangote Group for its commitment to investing in Nigeria’s energy sector. “The Dangote Refinery is a game-changer for Nigeria’s energy industry,” said the NMDPRA in a statement. “We are excited to work with the Dangote Group to ensure a smooth supply of petrol to the Nigerian market.”

The development comes as Nigeria struggles to meet its petrol needs, with long queues and fuel shortages becoming increasingly common. The government has been working to address the issue, but the problem persists.

The Dangote Refinery is expected to help alleviate the shortage, and Nigerians are eagerly awaiting the supply of petrol from the refinery. “This is a welcome development,” said one Nigerian resident. “We hope that the refinery will help to reduce the fuel queues and make life easier for us.”
