DRAMA IN ADAMAWA: Man Arrested After Scaling High-Tension Pole to Demand President Tinubu’s Resignation.

In a bizarre incident, a young man’s daring stunt to demand President Bola Tinubu’s resignation has landed him in police custody. The individual, whose identity remains undisclosed, climbed a 33kv high-tension pole in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area headquarters, refusing to descend unless the president stepped down.

The dramatic events unfolded on Friday, September 27, 2024, during the bustling market day in Mayo Belwa. The man’s precarious perch along the Yola-Jalingo highway sparked concerns among locals and authorities. After a tense standoff, police strategically enlisted the help of area residents to coax the man down safely on Saturday night.

Adamawa State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguruje, confirmed the incident to Punch, revealing that the individual is now in protective custody with the Criminal Investigating Department. Nguruje emphasized that attempting suicide constitutes a criminal offense under Nigerian law, and the man will face charges.

“The command will parade the man on Monday for attempting suicide,” Nguruje stated. “It’s our constitutional duty to protect lives and property. Anyone threatening to take their life will face the full force of the law.”

This unusual protest has raised questions about the limits of free speech and the measures individuals will take to express their dissent. As the case unfolds, it remains to be seen how the authorities will balance public safety with individual freedoms.
