EFCC Arrests Ex-Taraba Governor Darius Ishaku Over Alleged N27 Billion Fraud.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken into custody former Taraba State Governor Darius Ishaku in connection with allegations of N27 billion fraud.

Sources within the commission confirmed Ishaku’s arrest on Friday, with the former governor still in detention as of Friday evening.

According to insiders, Ishaku faces at least 15-count charges, with plans for imminent court arraignment following compilation of evidence.

Ishaku, a Peoples Democratic Party member, served as Taraba State governor from May 2015 to May 2023.

Preceding this arrest, the EFCC apprehended three officials from Ishaku’s administration in May 2021 for alleged involvement in a N21 billion scam.

The detained officials included:

– Permanent Secretary
– Director of Finance and Account
– Cashier in the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs

Investigations revealed that public funds were allegedly withdrawn from state accounts via cheques in tranches of at least N10 million each during Ishaku’s tenure.
