EFCC Probe by Kogi Stakeholders Over Alleged N15bn Abandon Project Funds
Citizens’ Group Demands Action Against Corruption in Kogi State.
A coalition of concerned citizens in Kogi State has petitioned top anti-corruption agencies to investigate the alleged misappropriation of N15 billion allocated to the state in July 2024. The funds were meant for contracted projects, but stakeholders claim that the projects have stalled, and the money has been diverted.
In a statement, the convener of the Concerned Kogi Citizens Forum, Isaiah Davies Ijele, expressed outrage over the gross misconduct and looting of state funds by top government officials. He urged the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to take swift action to prevent further injustices.
The group has submitted detailed petitions to the ICPC, EFCC, and the Inspector General of Police, highlighting transactions and diversions of state funds under the guise of projects. However, the ICPC has reportedly faced resistance from the Kogi State Government in obtaining cooperation and transaction details from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
The citizens’ group vows to monitor the situation closely, emphasizing that their “eyes are everywhere” and they have evidence of the transactions and diversions. They demand urgent action against corruption in Kogi State.
