FG Declares October 1 Public Holiday for Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary
Nigeria Celebrates 64th Independence Anniversary: FG Declares October 1 Public Holiday.
The Federal Government has announced that Tuesday, October 1, will be a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary. This declaration was made by Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government.
In a statement released on Saturday, September 28, Dr. Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad, acknowledging their patience, hard work, and sacrifices. He emphasized the importance of unity in building a better future, stating, “A Nigeria of our dream can only be built when we unite”.
Independence Day Reflections
Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged citizens to reflect on the labor of Nigeria’s past heroes and be inspired for the tasks ahead. He also encouraged Nigerians to remain steadfast in nation-building.
This year’s celebration marks 64 years since Nigeria gained independence from British colonial rule. As the country prepares for this significant milestone, some groups are planning protests against the government’s handling of economic issues.
Celebration and Reflection
While Nigerians celebrate their independence, the government’s declaration serves as a reminder of the country’s progress and the work still to be done. As Dr. Tunji-Ojo noted, the sacrifices of Nigerian men and women will not be in vain.
