FG Launches CNG Conversion Initiative for 50 Vehicles in Zaria

FG Launches CNG Conversion Initiative for 50 Vehicles in Zaria.

As part of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (P-CNGi), the Federal Government has commenced the conversion of 50 vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in Zaria, Kaduna State.

The initiative aims to promote the use of CNG as a cleaner and more affordable alternative to fuel, providing relief to Nigerians amidst the subsidy removal.

The first 50 vehicles, belonging to commercial transport union members, will receive free conversion kits and installation, with plans to make the kits accessible to all at a reasonable cost.

According to Dauda Suleiman, Team Lead for the CNG conversion initiative at the National Institute for Transport Technology (NITT) Centre, CNG is cheaper than petrol, with a kilogram costing N230 in Abuja and N455 in Kaduna.

Suleiman emphasized that CNG requires minimal maintenance and offers training programs for mechanics.

The Chairman of the Zaria branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers of Nigeria, Comrade Lawal Abdullahi, commended the initiative, stating that it will significantly reduce operating costs for commercial vehicle owners and lead to decreased transport fares.

With 500 members awaiting conversion, Abdullahi urged cooperation and understanding, emphasizing the government’s intention to ease the transportation system following the subsidy removal.
