Akwa Ibom Governor Seeks Additional Army Battalion Amid Security Concerns.

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has urged the Nigerian Army to establish an additional battalion in the coastal communities of the southern part of the state. He made this request during a courtesy visit from the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, who is in the state for the 2024 Chief of Army Staff Conference.

Governor Eno emphasized the strategic importance of the state as a leading oil producer and the need for reinforced security measures. He praised the Army’s commitment to democracy and security, acknowledging the synergy between Army formations and other security agencies in the state.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Lagbaja, commended the state’s peaceful environment and infrastructural support for the 2 Brigade headquarters. He assured the continuous commitment of the Army to ensuring security and safety of citizens.

The conference, usually held in Abuja, is taking place in Akwa Ibom State as a show of force, but Lagbaja noted that the state’s hospitable ambience made it an ideal location for relaxation and discussion of national security concerns.

In a bid to bolster security in the region, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has requested the establishment of an additional Army battalion in the coastal communities of the southern part of the state. This call to action comes as the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, visits the state for the 2024 Chief of Army Staff Conference.
