HIGHWAY HORROR: Suspected Terrorists Wreak Havoc on Taraba-Benue Road, 6 Dead

A devastating attack occurred on Monday at the Sai community, a border area between Benue and Taraba states, leaving six travellers dead. The victims, including the driver, were travelling from Takum to Wukari in Taraba State when gunmen suspected to be bandits ambushed their vehicle.

Takum Council Chairman, John Ali, confirmed the incident and revealed that the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) had been warned against using the route early in the morning due to its volatile nature. Despite this warning, the driver and passengers fell victim to the hoodlums, who emerged from the bush and opened fire on the moving vehicle.

Chairman Ali assured that the security agencies have taken custody of the corpses and are working to apprehend the perpetrators. He noted that a patrol team was already in place, following a recent security meeting with the NURTW and other unions, where they warned against early morning travel due to the absence of security personnel on patrol.

The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region, and the need for increased vigilance and cooperation between security agencies, transport unions, and local communities to prevent such tragedies.
