Israel Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu Says Retaliation To Iran Attacks Will Come Soon
Israel Vows Swift Retaliation Against Iran’s “Unprecedented” Attack.
In a stark warning, Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, has declared that Israel “will not sit idly by” following Iran’s largest-ever attack on Israeli military targets. The Iranian assault, comprising approximately 200 ballistic missiles, triggered widespread sirens and activated Israel’s advanced defense systems.
A “Very Strong, Painful Response” Imminent
Danon emphasized that Israel’s response will be swift and severe, stating, “What happened last night was an unprecedented response… it will be a very strong, painful response. It will be soon”. Israel’s military capabilities extend throughout the Middle East, and Danon cautioned that the decision on how and what to target rests solely with Israel.
Tensions Escalate Amid Global Concerns
US President Joe Biden has urged Israel to spare Iran’s nuclear sites, but Danon countered that preventing Iran’s nuclear ambitions is a collective responsibility of Western democracies. Israel seeks a calculated response to avoid full-scale war with Iran, citing past conflicts with Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon as demonstrations of its military prowess.
Possible Targets for Retaliation
Israeli officials have hinted that oil production facilities inside Iran and other strategic sites may be targeted in the impending retaliation. Other possibilities include:
– Targeted Assassinations: Israel may opt for clandestine operations similar to the one that killed Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran two months ago.
– Air Defense Systems: Israel could target Iran’s air defense systems, as it did in April.
– Airstrikes: Fighter jets may be deployed for airstrikes against Iranian targets.
