Justice Served: Kaduna Court Sentences Internet Fraudster, Arraigns Two Others
KADUNA COURT DELIVERS VERDICT ON INTERNET FRAUDSTERS.
In a significant crackdown on cybercrime, the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction and sentencing of one Manasseh Hamza Bello, alias Domingos Pereira, for internet fraud. Bello was found guilty of impersonating a white man on Facebook and was sentenced to five years imprisonment or a fine of N500,000.
In addition to his jail term, Bello forfeited several items, including an iPhone 13 Pro Max, a Tecno PoP 8 mobile phone, a gold-colored Toyota Camry car, and N2,127,000 to the federal government. His arrest and prosecution followed intelligence on the activities of a cybercrime syndicate operating in Kaduna.
Meanwhile, two other suspects, Muhammad Ibn Muhammad and Baba Dennis Ndong, were arraigned on separate charges of obtaining by false pretense, criminal breach of trust, and impersonation. Muhammad allegedly obtained N1,935,000 from a victim by pretending to be a lawyer, while Ndong obtained N5,000,000 by falsely claiming to be a director in the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) capable of securing employment for the victim’s children.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty, and their bail applications were adjourned to August 26 and August 29, respectively. The EFCC’s efforts to combat internet fraud and bring perpetrators to justice continue to yield results, serving as a warning to those engaged in such activities.
