Maiduguri Floods: Residents Forced to Flee as Waters Overrun Major Streets [Photos]
Flood Crisis Engulfs Maiduguri, Displacing Thousands and Paralyzing City.
A devastating flood has inundated major streets in Maiduguri, Borno State capital, forcing thousands of residents to flee their homes in search of safety. The disaster, which began a week ago, reached its peak on Tuesday, September 10, with widespread destruction reported in several areas.
The Jere Local Government Area has been particularly hard hit, with floodwaters ravaging homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure. The State-owned Broadcasting Station BRTV, Post Office, Shehu Laminu way, and Custom Area are among the severely affected locations.
According to sources, the catastrophic flooding is attributed to the breakdown of the Alau Dam, which has unleashed a torrent of water into the city. As a result, many residents have been compelled to abandon their homes and seek refuge elsewhere.
The situation remains dire, with concerns growing about the potential for further displacement, property damage, and health risks. Authorities are urged to take swift action to mitigate the crisis and provide support to those affected.
