Exclusive: Petroleum Training Institute Staff Embroiled in N1 Billion Fraud Scandal.

A shocking report obtalined by SaharaReporters has revealed a massive fraud scandal at the Petroleum Training Institute in Effurun, Delta State, involving the misappropriation of over N1 billion. The report, compiled by an investigative committee set up in 2020, implicated at least 10 staff members in various financial offenses.

According to the report, about N400 million was misappropriated, while contractors’ profiles used to bid for contracts were unaware of the existence of such contracts. The report also highlighted irregular payments, unapproved contracts, and a lack of supervision and monitoring of projects.

The Acting Principal/Chief Executive has been accused of granting amnesty to the indicted staff, including himself, sparking allegations of misuse of power. Staff members have petitioned the Minister of Petroleum, calling for intervention and disciplinary action against those found guilty.

An external auditor’s report also revealed a lack of due diligence in contract awards, execution, and payment, as well as abandoned projects and unregistered companies awarded contracts.

The scandal has created tension within the institute, with staff members calling for transparency and accountability. The Minister of Petroleum has been urged to intervene and sanction those found guilty.
