Nigeria Police Force Cracks Down on Crime, Arrests 2,740 Suspects in One Month.
In a major breakthrough, the Nigeria Police Force has dismantled a notorious gunrunning syndicate operating in the Bauchi-Plateau region, arresting five key suspects and recovering a PKT machine gun, 40 rounds of 37.2mm ammunition, and 95 rounds of 62mm cartridge ammunition. The syndicate’s leader, Taimako Mato, was a former Boko Haram weapon handling instructor who procured and distributed prohibited weapons to various buyers.
Crime Crackdown Yields Impressive Results
Over the past month, the police have made significant strides in combating crime, with:
– Armed Robbery: 295 suspects arrested
– Kidnapping: 186 suspects arrested
– Murder/Homicide: 271 suspects arrested
– Unlawful Possession of Firearms: 71 suspects arrested
– Sexual-Related Offences: 199 suspects arrested
– Cultism: 143 suspects arrested
– Other Crimes: 1,575 suspects arrested
Additionally, the police recovered:
– Firearms: 185
– Ammunition: 4,087 rounds
– Vehicles: 111
– Kidnapped Victims Rescued: 129
Inspector General of Police Reassures Public
IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to protecting lives and property, calling on citizens to support their efforts in establishing a crime-free society. The police will continue to employ innovative strategies and tactics to combat crime and uphold the rule of law.
