Nigerian Police Shoots Colleague Over Used Phone

Fatal Dispute: Nigerian Policeman Turns Gun on Colleague Over Used Phone

A shocking incident of violence has rocked the Surulere area of Lagos State, where a policeman attached to a prominent lawyer, Barrister Wale Fapohunda, shot and killed his colleague in a heated argument over a second-hand phone.

According to a press statement released by the police authorities, the tragic event occurred on August 8, 2024, at approximately 10:22 pm. Corporal Umar Lawal, a police officer from SPU Base 10 Sokoto, allegedly opened fire on his colleague, Gabriel Audu, a legion attached to the same lawyer, at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

Eyewitnesses report that the altercation began when Lawal purchased a used phone from a colleague, Vincent, aka Dogman, but the transaction turned sour, leading to a heated exchange of words. In a tragic twist, Lawal’s bullet missed the intended target, striking Audu in the chest instead.

The victim was rushed to Luth General Hospital Idiaraba, where he was pronounced dead. The police have apprehended Lawal and recovered the AK-47 rifle used in the shooting. Lawal has confessed to the crime, citing the disputed phone transaction as the motive.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the police community, with an investigation underway to unravel the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
