Ogun Police Bust Large-Scale Cannabis Farm, Arrest 70-Year-Old Grandfather and Three Others

NDLEA CRACKS DOWN ON DRUG TRAFFICKING: 70-Year-Old Grandfather, Three Others Arrested for Cultivating Cannabis in Ogun.

In a significant operation, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 70-year-old grandfather, Fidelis Egede, and three others for cultivating cannabis on a massive six-hectare plantation in Alaka village, Ogun State. The suspects, including Samuel Sylvanus, 31, Jato Samson, 33, and Francis Blessing, 28, were apprehended on Tuesday, August 13.

According to NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the agency has made several other notable arrests and seizures across the country. These include the recovery of 145,400 pills of tramadol in Kano, 892,400 bottles of codeine-based syrup worth N6.2 billion at the Port Harcourt Ports Complex, and the destruction of 21,800 kilograms of cannabis in Ekiti State.

Additionally, NDLEA officers have intercepted various vehicles transporting illicit drugs, including a Sienna bus carrying 200.2kg of cannabis in Enugu and a truck carrying 30,000 ampoules of pentazocine injection in Abuja. Several suspects have been arrested in connection with these seizures.

These operations demonstrate the NDLEA’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and cultivation in Nigeria.
