Ondo Police Uncover Officers Involved in N20,000 Extortion Scandal
Ondo Police Command Cracks Down on Extortion: Officers Identified, Disciplinary Action Underway.
In a swift response to allegations of extortion, the Ondo State Police Command has identified the officers involved in the unprofessional act against Temi (@_iamTipTop), who claimed to have been forced to hand over N20,000 while en route to donate inhalers to asthmatic students at the Federal University of Technology Akure.
Temi took to social media platform X to share his ordeal, posting that the police officers threatened him before extorting the money. Although the post has since been deleted, it caught the attention of the authorities.
The police command has now confirmed that the implicated officers have been identified and disciplinary action has commenced. “The command has identified Officers involved in the unprofessional act against @_iamTipTop while on transit in the state. Disciplinary action has commenced,” read the statement.
This development comes amidst ongoing efforts to address police extortion and misconduct in Nigeria. Deputy Inspector-General of Police Abiodun Sylvester Alabi recently urged Ondo police officers to shun extortion, emphasizing that policing is not a “tea party”.
Case Details:
– Victim: Temi (@_iamTipTop)
– Location: Akure, Ondo State
– Incident: Alleged extortion of N20,000 by police officers
– Response: Ondo Police Command identifies officers, commences disciplinary action
The Ondo Police Command’s prompt response to this incident demonstrates its commitment to addressing misconduct and maintaining public trust. As the investigation unfolds, citizens are encouraged to report any instances of police misconduct to ensure accountability.
