Presidency Hits Back at NLC Over Petrol Price Hike Allegations

Presidency Fires Back at NLC Over Fuel Price Hike Allegations.

The Presidency has vehemently denied accusations made by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) that President Bola Tinubu reneged on a promise to maintain stable fuel prices. In a scathing response, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, a media aide to the President, described the NLC’s claims as “dirty politics.

Abdulaziz, who claimed to have been present at two meetings between President Tinubu and labour leaders during minimum wage negotiations, insisted that there was no discussion of a fuel price hike in exchange for a minimum wage increase. He took to Twitter to dismiss the NLC’s allegations, stating that President Tinubu never made such a promise.

The NLC had accused President Tinubu of betraying the trust of Nigerians by increasing fuel prices despite a promise to maintain stable prices. The labour union claimed that an important condition for accepting the N70,000 national minimum wage was a guarantee that fuel prices would not be increased.

However, Abdulaziz’s response has sparked a heated debate, with the NLC condemning the government’s recent fuel price hike as a betrayal of trust. The labour union has demanded a reversal of the fuel price increase, an end to the crackdown on protesters, and a halt to the encroachment on the Ministry of Labour and Employment’s duties.

The dispute has raised questions about the government’s commitment to its promises and the NLC’s role in holding leaders accountable. As the situation continues to unfold, Nigerians are left wondering who to believe in this bitter dispute.
