Senate Delays Resumption, New Date Set for September 24
Senate Delays Resumption by One Week, Now to Reconvene on September 24.
In a surprise move, the Senate has postponed its resumption from summer break by one week, from September 17 to September 24, 2024. The sudden change was announced in an internal memo issued by Clerk of the Senate, Chinedu Akubueze, on Wednesday.
According to the memo, the Senate leadership has directed the shift in resumption date, which was previously set for September 17. The new resumption time is scheduled for 11 am on September 24.
Lawmakers were informed of the change in a brief memo, which read: “Please be informed that the resumption date from the ongoing recess has been rescheduled from Tuesday, September 17, 2024, to Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at 11 am. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.”
The Senate had embarked on its annual recess on July 23, and the delayed resumption raises questions about the chamber’s legislative agenda for the remainder of the year.
