Soldier Detained by Police for Alleged Murder of Young Man in Benue

Benue Police Arrest Soldier in Connection with Brazen Daylight Murder.

A shocking incident unfolded on Monday morning, September 9, at the Dangote Cement Plant in Gboko, Benue State, where a young man was brutally murdered by a soldier. The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was shot dead through the back screen of his car while driving to work.

Eyewitnesses described the chilling scene, stating that the soldier opened fire, causing the car to veer off the road and into a nearby farm. The young man slumped out of the driver’s seat and fell dead on the spot.

The senseless killing sparked outrage among local youths, who carried the corpse on a Bajaj motorcycle in protest to the factory. The irate crowd smashed the windscreen of several vehicles parked near the entrance and laid the body at the administrative block’s entrance.

The situation was brought under control through the intervention of Gboko Local Government Council Chairman, Verlumun Var, and community leaders.

Area Commander Edmund Afraimu confirmed the arrest of the soldier, identified as Aboy Bonny, in connection with the murder. The incident has raised concerns about extrajudicial killings and the need for accountability within the security forces.
