Three Kingpins, 16 Others Jailed for 302 Years in Nigeria’s Largest Drug Trafficking Case

NDLEA Secures 302-Year Sentence for 19 Drug Traffickers.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the conviction and sentencing of 19 drug traffickers to a total of 302 years in prison. The convictions, secured through the agency’s efforts, demonstrate a significant blow to drug trafficking in Nigeria.

According to Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy for NDLEA, the convictions followed the arrest and prosecution of the suspects by the anti-narcotics agency. Among those convicted are three kingpins, including Bolanle Lookman Dauda, who was arrested with 57.5 kilograms of cocaine valued at millions of naira.

Dauda’s arrest was made possible through an intelligence-led raid by NDLEA operatives, and he was subsequently sentenced to 21 years in prison or a fine of N30 million. Another kingpin, Ikeh Stanley Ifeanyi, was arrested with 1,100 ampoules of fentanyl, a lethal synthetic opioid, and sentenced to 14 years in jail or a fine of N2 million.

The convictions are part of a larger effort by NDLEA to combat drug trafficking in Nigeria. In July alone, the agency secured convictions for 414 drug traffickers and dealers across various federal high courts in the country.
